Re: best way to store toilet paper??
smash em flat first...easier to stack and they take up less room then a "round" roll...

Re: best way to store toilet paper??
Depends on where. If in the house, and humidity and temp are controlled, and termites aren't an issue, it really doesn't seem to matter.
We store quite a bit just in some spare closets. Now a garage or attic would be a different story. |
Re: best way to store toilet paper??
I have about 1000 cubic feet of Costco toilet paper stored on pallet racks on the top shelves.
Have never had a problem. |

Re: best way to store toilet paper??
Why are you storing toilet paper? Don't you have a left hand?
Wow! You're really hard-core, aren't you? Can't you find some old Sears catalogs? |
Re: best way to store toilet paper??
It amazes me how every damn animal in the world goes after toilet paper. Insects, mice, squirrels, birds, cats, etc. I bet if you threw a roll in the lake the fish would have a taste for it too.

Ahh, survival prep forum needing TP? Even though I was born in the USofA - I find TP to be a last resort. I would rather use some water to clean myself.

Best bet, load up on the bulk packs of baby wipes. More efficient, cleaner and compact. After a hard day's work of killing zombies and defending your cans of tuna, everyone needs a little tender comfort on the backside after a hearty bowel movement.

Yes $90.00 for each box does seem high:yes: BUT then how much does the stuff you intend to put in them to be protected cost? Blankets, cloths, sleeping bags and yes even TP -- what will they cost in the future IF you can buy them then? :questionm:dontknow: Also they are made of ALUMINUM:23_30_104::thinkey: -- about the most reciclable material known which will likely be worth much more in the future too!:thinkey::yes: Andy made his own BOXES from 3/4" ply wood as I remember and lined his boxes with a big plastic bag. The cost of one sheet of 3/4" plywood is about 1/2 that of thease boxes and it takes a lot of work and having a shop and the proper tools to build the boxes -- how much is that worth? :thinkey::dontknow: When I look at it that way $90.00 don't seem all that expencive to me!:452::thinkey: the DUCK :15_1_70v: |

Re: best way to store toilet paper??
As Duck said, I made plywood boxes for mine....I used either 1/2" or 5/8" CDX plywood.....this sells for 15-20 bucks/sheet depending on when and where you buy it. 3/4" would be fine, but you'd end up with a pretty heavy box.
I usually end up with a lot of leftovers from construction work that fit this size. ( especially the end panels ) Takes one full sheet for the tops/sides, and then a couple smaller panels for the ends.....so even buying new, 4 sheets would make 3 boxes. Size I built was about 44" x 20" x 22" if I remember right.....that fits exactly 144 rolls of Northern 12pk double rolls. I'd line the inside with some 2 mil plastic, then screw the lid on, then wrap/staple the entire outside with some 6 mil black plastic. Then the whole box is set up in a loft type storage area. I think I set 10 boxes up that way.....1440 rolls. I checked them once couple years ago....no sign of rodent damage, and I sorta doubt bugs could even get in....time will tell. http://www.digistash.com/data/026a39...3_p125578.jpeg Finished box on the dolly to the left.... http://www.digistash.com/data/026a39...3_p125577.jpeg |
Re: best way to store toilet paper??
Also, I recent bought some VERY nice 55 gallon drums with plastic lid and clamp type sealing ring. They came from a local Con Agra food plant that gets tomato powder in them, the powder is in a plastic bag inside the drum, so once the bag is removed, the drum is real clean. I paid 10 bucks each for them. Have no clue how many rolls of TP one would hold, but I've have to guess in the 200 range or better, based on my boxes......that that is another cheap option.

Re: best way to store toilet paper??
QWAK,Andy,If I had your work shop and space I would likely go with building the boxes too.:yes:
The FIBER BOARD DRUMS is also a great idea  but both the wood boxes and drums need to be protected from the outside eliments. The military surplus boxes solve that problem PLUS the empty boxes and be turned in to HYDROPONIC gardens or other usefull things. the DUCK :15_1_70v: |

Re: best way to store toilet paper??
Make a box of hardboard (Masonite) that will hold several rolls. Leave holes on the front side at the top and bottom so you can insert a roll at the top and remove one at the bottom. Cut a hole in the wall near the toilet and glue the box in. Trim and finish according to your skill level. Now you have a nice storage place for a half dozen or so rolls and you don't have to hunt for a roll when you really need one.
Store the remainder of your stash in the package it came in, preferably on a shelf somewhere. |
